LA - day 3.

Brunch at organic Interim Cafe was a good way to satiate our appetite before spending a couple hours laying on the sand at Santa Monica beach. We had smoothies and each ordered Pupusa con Huevos - a salvadorian thick corn tortilla stuffed with cheese and loroco (cilantro) and topped two eggs-over-easy and a spicy pico de gallo.

LA - day 2.

The next day we tried Cafe Verona, a little restaurant on La Brea. It was quite delicious and hit the spot before a busy day ahead of us. I saw a little fresh fruit vendor outside, where they spiced up the fruit with chili, salt and lime - something they do in Nepal as well. So I HAD to get a large container of it, and it definitely brought back some fond memories. The coolest part of the day: I helped Ryan with some behind the scenes pictures for his interview with Mos Def. We met at the Watts Towers and then ended up back on La Brea by Union. He was so kind and really interesting and I am looking forward to the next issue of Inventory to see how it all turned out.

LA - evening 1.

We arrived in LA fairly late in the evening, so we just had a quick bite to eat at the pescatarian restaurant M Café before passing out for a busy day on Thursday. Ryan and I got Albacore tuna burgers with fries and a kale salad - simple and satisfying.

roasted peppers.

Once you roast peppers at home, you will most likely never buy them in a jar again because they taste SO much better. While I am far from an expert at it, I still enjoy doing it and love the taste significantly more. I have always roasted my own peppers, and whether I put them in dip or into a dish such as tacos (as I did this time with cheese, veggie ground round, lettuce, chipotle sour cream and salsa wrapped in a corn tortilla) they make the dish deeeeeelish.

havana.

It's hard to miss Havana on Commercial Drive, with it's charming patio seating and even quirkier interior. Entering the place you are greeted by dozens of frames and pictures hanging askew, and as you venture further back there is a bar and a small art gallery. I went there for a Sunday brunch, and after contemplating between a variety of delicious menu options such as the Latin Breakfast and Veggie Hash, I finally settled on the Huevos Rancheros. This came in the form of 3 sunny side up eggs laying on a bed of chili and cheese, all placed on top of a grilled tortilla, with fresh salsa and really creamy rich sour cream. Needless to say, it hit the spot. The other pictures are of the Chorizo Hash and the Omelet which I am told were equally divine. It definitely was worth the drive.
