backyard.
There are some places that will take you back and reproduce some of the more magical memories you have tucked away. The backyard of the home where I used to live, is one of them. Having moved from across the world and still adjusting to the culture shock, there was comfort in spending time in our little piece of nature; a place of play and also reflection. When my sister and I were younger, we enjoyed this backyard throughout each season. In the autumn we would find the nicest leaves, dry them and make paintings with them on our patio deck. In the winter my dad used to pile up heaps of snow and we would ski or snowshoe around the backyard on days when we couldn't wake up in time to go up to the mountain (6:30am on a weekend, are you kidding me?) During springtime, as soon as the snow melted, we would gather sticks with our other little friends and build forts by the stream. Summer was the best - my mom grew all sorts of flowers, vegetables and berries and the colours were magnificent amongst the lush green grass. We could snack on fresh strawberries or cherry tomatoes while sitting on the bench swing in between a game of badminton or volleyball, or sprawled out on a blanket chasing that perfect summer glow. I miss this backyard.
