My sister laughed when I first mentioned bicycle shorts (actually, when she first saw me wearing them as well), but when worn right they can be amazingly versatile. I like these bicycle shorts because they can be worn on their own with a tunic, longer shirt, or a dress… and even can be worn underneath shorts. They work especially if your shorts are on the shorter side, and you’re not by the lake. And they were under 10$ at F21! They keep selling out but usually come back in stock on their online website. (The computer has made me lazy when it comes to shopping… there is definitely a store in Metrotown, but to save myself from the 20 minute journey I just order online). Oh boy, I’ve gotten a little obsessed with online shopping.

vancouver.

I still can not believe the riot that took place last night (see here for pictures). People are suffering around the world due to lack of freedom, poor government, etc. and it disgusts me that people chose to create this destruction in such a beautiful city for no reason. It was an absolute disgrace and extremely devastating to watch unfold. However, the rioters do NOT represent Vancouver as a city at all. In fact, the majority of the rioters were not from the City of Vancouver. Seeing people coming together today in all ways, including to help clean up, reminds us what Vancouver is really all about. I love Vancouver.

nelson the seagull.

Nelson the Seagull is a little cafe that was recently opened by three South Africans - Jodi (who I have previously met - SO genuine and kind), Jonathan, and Lee. Both the food and atmosphere are comforting, warm, and lend a very home-like feel to the space. The natural aesthetic of Nelson the Seagull is lovely, and creates a welcoming environment that truly makes it hard to leave long after that last sip of coffee. The food is prepared in the open kitchen right in front of your eyes, using fresh, local, organic ingredients. My breakfast of perfectly poached eggs on freshly made ciabatta bread with avocado was wonderful paired with my Americano Misto. A little tart for dessert and I was completely satisfied. It is simplicity at its best in every single way.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I would post my favourite outfits from some of my favourite bloggers that have had summer come early to them this year (or perhaps they have it pretty much year round, either way, I am envious). Lace, layered accessories and textures both subtle and bold... maxi dresses, big sunglasses & bare-legs... all capture the playfulness of sunny days. Less structure, more flow... coincidentally also the theme of my summer.

leopard & lace.

I am wearing shorts! Yay! Finally the sun has decided to stay out, and while it's still a little breezy, it feels so nice to be able to get some sun on my pale legs. I love mixing different patterns and textures, and leopard and lace has to be one of my top go-to combos when I am feeling a little bland from my usual work day attire. I'm in Victoria for the weekend to visit family and catch up with friends so I will be missing the crazy Vancouver streets tonight on Game Day. A little hiatus from the chaos of the Canucks game in favour of quality time and dancing with my favourite ladies in Victoria sounds good to me!
